Rebecca Sowell

Rebecca Sowell began her private studies with Marlas Windus, a previous member of the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra. Rebecca received the Gertrude Austin scholarship to study at the University of Iowa, where she studied violin under Katherine Wolfe and earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance. Though focusing on a degree in classical violin peformance, Rebecca also studied in the areas of jazz and classical improvisation, conducting, chamber music, viola, baroque violin, and voice.

 

Rebecca won the Graduate String Quartet Assistantship to the University of Louisville, earning her Master’s in Music and specializing in violin performance under the instruction of J. Patrick Rafferty. As a graduate student, she also won the audition of concertmaster of the UofL Symphony Orchestra and a scholarship to study for a short period of time in Katowice, Poland at the Akadamie Muzycna conservatory. Rebecca has also performed in numerous masterclasses for performers such as Bayla Keyes, the Turtle Island String Quartet, and Nadja Solerno-Sonnenberg.

 

Rebecca currently has a violin, viola, and chamber ensemble studio, performs in many regional orchestras, is 1st violin in the Peccatte String Quartet, serves on the faculty for the Csehy Summer School of Music, and is Assistant Director of the Kentuckty Christian String Camp.
